What does a person feel when Peru calls them? It is not just tourism. It is an inner journey full of meaning, pain, purification and new strength. We publish a candid testimonial from a participant who spent 30 days on a personalized retreat in the Amazon jungle. Self-immersion: a participant’s personal story about travelling to Peru
This trip to Peru was more than just a journey for me – it was an immersion into the very heart of myself. I came to the camp in a state of inner turmoil: toxic relationships, accumulated complexes, the shadow of childhood abandonment, a sense that I had lost my core. But I didn’t come empty-handed – I brought with me a clear intention: to rebuild myself, to face my truth, and to come out stronger than ever.
My trip coincided with the New Year period, and as if by a sign from above, I found myself at camp alone. This was a blessing: all the guides’ attention was directed at me, and it was as if nature itself was telling me – it was time to start over.
Master Plants are not medicine. It is about living, dismantling, dying and being born. It’s not just hallucinations, it’s an inner judgement, an inner conversation, an inner cleansing.
I’ve been through it all: flashes of pain, insights, purges, forgiveness, hard lessons, moments when everything you believed in dissolves in an instant. And moments when you truly meet yourself for the first time in your life.
Plants of strength don’t give you what you want – they give you what you need. In 30 days I experienced things that normally take decades to do:
- let go of hard feelings for loved ones,
- forgave myself,
- learned to look into fear without looking away,
- remembered who I was before the layers of pain and expectations were put on me.
I went to Peru as a “50-year-old man in search” and came back as a man who is building himself anew – a new self.
I would not recommend such experiments – it is not a path for everyone. But if you feel the call – go not for “experience” but for transformation.
And the main thing: do not enter this work without intention. A clear goal is what connects chaos with healing.
Big thanks to the guides for accompanying my retreat, to the spirits of plants and of course to myself!
The photo shows the house where I spent these days and the buckets. The blue one was for cleaning, I called it “The bucket of truth and gratitude”. So many tears were shed in it and vows and promises were said to myself….© Georgi
